Bergen is the second largest city of Norway, and the gay scene is also the second largest in the country.
Today we have 2 LGBT bars/clubs and 2 LGBT festivals, as well as various forms of organisational groupings like political organisations, sport clubs and student organisations.
Welcome to a city increasingly coloured by the rainbow – welcome to Bergen!
Norway is a very liberal country, but still, we do not use the label “Gay Friendly”. Ordinarily, no hotels, bars, shops etc has problems when it comes to gay/lesbian people and customers. In a way, you could say that almost all hotels / bars are “gay friendly”, we just don't use the terms. Lately it has also become increasingly normal to see two boys or two girls holding hands, and to see gays and lesbians acting themselves in the public area. This does almost never lead to conficts. |

As written above, we do not use the label “Gay Friendly” in Norway . Nevertheless, some hotels and hostels seem to be more attractive to Gay customers than others:
- Scandic Hotel Bergen City: This Hotel is situated in the city-centre, and is one of the highest-quality hotels in Bergen . It cooperates with local Gay organisations, and welcomes you to stay at their hotel.
- Marken Gjestehus: Bergen has got a centrally located and reasonably priced guesthouse, for travellers who want to spend their money on other things than sleeping! With its location in the city centre, its an excellent base to explore and enjoy a beautiful and historical city, packed with cultural events, shopping and other leisure activities.
Marken Gjestehus offers rooms/beds in rooms from 1 to 8 persons.

Fincken is the oldest existing Gay bar in Bergen . It is situated in Nygårdsgaten 2a, in the heart of Bergen . It opens from Wednesday to Saturday, and is mainly a pub. In the first floor, there is a separate room with a DJ and a dancefloor Fridays and Saturdays. Some Thursdays Fincken stages concerts with new, upcoming groups and artists from Bergen. This concept is not necessarily queer.
During this Summer, the outdoor bar / restaurant Dr. Wiesener, situated in Nye Sandviksvei 17a (behind “Maria’s Church” at Bryggen), has a queer image / concept every Friday and Saturday night. Inside there is a minor discoteque.

Homodagene:
For decades, LGBT Festivals has been held in Bergen each year in May. The present version of the festival, Homodagene, is organized by LLH, the main Gay and Lesbian first held in 2003, and has been going on since. Bergen Pride consists of a Gay Parade, a Parade Show on Torgallmenningen (big, public square in the city centre), a Mr. and Ms Gay Bergen Contest, a big finishing ball, and some other concepts.
Parodi Grand Prix:
Did you think that the Eurovision Song Contest was the ultimate venue for bad taste? Well, then you still haven't seen Parodi Grand Prix (Eurovision Fake Contest). This is a funny contest taking place in several Norwegian cities, and every May the winners meet in Bergen to compete for a national victory.
Skeiv i Slapsen (The Winter Festival):
The Winter Festival was first held in 2006, and was a week-long LGBT Festival with a primary objective to let people have fun at least for a week during the long and dark winter. Now it has turned into a three/four days long queer festival, serving as a promotional weekend for the main LGBT Festival, Homodagene in May. Skeiv i Slapsen is held in late January / early February.
